2009
The National Get Out the Vote Award
Awarded on behalf of the Russell Simmons' Hip Hop Summit Action Network
The Hip Hop Caucus and President and CEO, Rev Lennox Yearwood, Jr. were honored along side T.I., LL Cool J, Young Jeezy and MC Lyte at the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball in Washington DC on January 19th, 2009. The award recognized the outstanding achievement of registering and mobilizing young voters in urban communities to the polls during the 2008 Election Season.
2008
Walter E. Fauntroy No Fear Award
The Walter E. Fauntroy No FEAR Institute Award was presented to Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr. and the Hip Hop Caucus' "Make Hip Hop Not War" Campaign for the work in the face of governmental and institutional retaliation and harassment. It was presented at a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol on May 14, 2008.
The purpose of the award is to honor the intellectual geniuses of the civil rights movement and the strategic and moral force behind the No FEAR movement. Awards are presented to a select group of individuals and organizations that have shown courage in the face of institutional or governmental retaliation, harassment or abuse.
2006
The Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award
Awarded on behalf of the Institute for Policy Studies and the Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award Selection Committee
The Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award is awarded annually by the Institute for Policy Studies. It is awarded to those advancing the cause of human rights in the Americas. The Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award commemorates Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffitt, who in 1976 were assassinated in Washington, DC by agents of the Chilean secret service. The Hip Hop Caucus received the 30th Annual Award for grassroots work fighting for the rights of Hurricane Katrina survivors.
